The Day after Election

November 7th 2012

I woke up this morning to an overwhelming amount of “hate” going around because of the outcome of the election. People I call my friends, bashing the poor, and people receiving government assistance. Let me just say I am not here to defend our system for helping the “poor” because it isn’t great, it needs work and this country needs help.  I even understand that in your vague status update about, “going to work today to carry the poor” you essentially were not talking about “me” (and by me, I mean the people who need assistance, and are not here to abuse it.) What hurts is that we are all grouped into the same category. I am poor…  I have been laid off from my job, and I have about $115,000 in medical bills that I will be paying for the remainder of my life probably. I have no idea how I am going to pay for my rent and utilities this month. I haven’t turned on my heat because I am afraid a higher bill could eventually lead me to losing my apartment. And it definitely sucks that there isn’t more help out there for younger citizens going through a major health issue. Do you know what they tell me when I go to the government offices to see what I can do, to keep my strength up in this battle? They give me a two page listing of all the local charity offices that will pay your rent, and your utilities. I can’t bring myself to go there because there are people in this world who need more help than me. There are children who don’t have a roof over their heads and no warm clothing. I could never know I was taking resources away from them.

I guess what I am trying to get at is we all believe the same thing. We all know the system is ass backwards. The difference is, instead of stereotyping and throwing around all the hate, why don’t you do something? Just because you are one person doesn’t mean you can’t make a difference. Your hate rants are not going to get this country anywhere. Just like me sitting here blogging about your hate rants isn’t going to cure me of cancer. Let’s try and work together to make this country a better place. If everyone just changed their mind set to believe we can move forward, and we can grow into a flourishing country again, maybe we will get somewhere. This requires work from every citizen, poor, rich, and middle class. The president cannot change this country by himself, it takes the teamwork (hopefully) of the Senate, The House of Representatives, AND the president to make a change. And you know who elects those state officials to represent YOUR voice as just one citizen? YOU.

Let’s cut out the hate and get some effing WORK done.
